Mr. Money
PREPARED BY: ALAN PORTER | FOR: ALLIED RACING STABLE
A top-class performer at two, three and four, millionaire Mr. Money won five graded stakes events, four of them consecutively. He is by very successful young sire, Goldencents, the only two-time winner of the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1), and a son of the might Into Mischief. His dam, a daughter of Tiznow, is a three-quarters sister to Champion and Dubawi World Cup (G1) winner Well Armed.
The Into Mischief line has enjoyed exceptional success when crossed over Gone West line mare. Goldencents sired multiple graded stakes winning millionaire By My Standards out of a mare by Gone West son, Muqtarib. The Into Mischief cross with Speightstown has been a very productive one with four graded winners, two grade one, and mares by Speightstown’s sons, Munnings, Central Banker, Country Day, El Deal, Haynesfield, Jersey Town, Poseidon’s Warrior, Tamarkuz and Speightster could also work. Into Mischief’s Horse of the Year Authentic is out of a mare by Gone West son Mr. Greeley a cross that has also provided graded winner Phantom Currency for Goldencents and could be tried through Mr. Greeley sons El Corredor, Greeley’s Galaxy, Horse Greeley and Whywhywhwy. On this cross are also graded winners out of mares by Grand Slam and his son Limehouse; and stakes winners out of mares by Proud Citizen (sire of Mark Valeski) and Elusive Quality (sire of Quality Road, Smarty Jones and Great Notion). Mares by Gone West’s Florida-based son Bahamian Squall could also work.
Goldencents has stakes winning two-year-old Newstome, out of a mare by Unbridled’s Song, and Into Mischief has five stakes winners out of mares by Unbridled’s Song and sons, including graded winner Maximus Mischief out of a mare by Songandaprayer, and multiple stakes winner Flash of Mischief out of a mare by Political Force. Other sons of Unbridled’s Song include Buddha, Dunkirk, Eurosilver, Even The Score, First Defence, Half Ours, Midshipman, Rockport Harbor and Zensational. Goldencents has stakes winner Always Hope out of a mare by Broken Vow, another son of Unbridled, Into Mischief also has champion Covfefe out of a mare by Unbridled – the sire of Unbridled’s Song – and he and his sons have five stakes winners, including Kentucky Derby (G1) victor, Mandaloun, out of mares by Unbridled son, Empire Maker (sire of Pioneerof the Nile and Bodemeister; and grandsire of American Pharoah and Cairo Prince) and Unbridled might also be brought in through Birdstone and Saarland (broodare sire of an Into Mischief stakes winner). Unbridled is by Fappiano, and from the Cryptoclearance branch of that line Into Mischief has a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Victory Gallop, and three stakes winners out of mares by Candy Ride (sire of Twirling Candy).
Into Mischief has graded winner Golden Mischief out of a mare by Mr. Prospector son, Carson City, and graded winner Gas Station Sushi out of a mare by Carson City son Five Star Day, which also suggests daughters of City Zip (who appears particularly promising here), Pollard’s Vision or Cuvee. Into Mischief has already sired stakes winner Sittin at the Bar out of a mare by Mutakddim, stakes winner No Cents out of a mare by Petionville, and stakes winners out of mares Cape Town and Bob and John (all by Seeking the Gold). He has two stakes winners, including graded stakes winner Miss Mischief out of mares by Lemon Drop Kid (by Kingmambo) and there is a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Smart Strike (sire of Curlin, English Channel and Lookin At Lucky), a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Machiavellian (sire of Street Cry, grandsire of Street Sense and Street Boss), and stakes winners out of mares by Fusaichi Pegasus and Thunder Gulch. Overall, almost any strain of Mr. Prospector might prove positive here, but we can note that Goldencents has stakes winner Silvercents out of a mare by Pulling Punches (by Two Punch, also sire of Smoke Glacken).
Goldencents is out of a mare by Banker’s Gold, by the Mr. Prospector stallion, Forty Niner, and Mr. Money is inbred to that horse. Into Mischief has done particularly well over Forty Niner, and with that strain only 5×5 in foals by Mr. Money, it could be worth crossing him back over mares from that line. On this cross Into Mischief has five stakes winners, including grade one winners Practical Joke and Life Is Good, out of mares by Distorted Humor (sire of Flower Alley, Sharp Humor, Drosselmeyer, Maclean’s Music and Jimmy Creed). Forty Niner could also be brought in through Coronado’s Quest, Editor’s Note, End Sweep, Jules, Luhuk, Gold Fever, Roar (broodmare sire of an Into Mischief stakes winner), Trippi (broodmare sire of an Into Mischief graded winner) and Twining.
Looking at Into Mischief over other branches of his own Northern Dancer line, the cross with Danzig line mares has an excellent strike-rate. This includes graded winner Can The Man out of a mare by Danzig himself, graded winner Instagrand out of a mare by Lawyer Ron (by Langfuhr), and graded stakes winner Ain’t Easy (out of a mare by Fastnet Rock, a son of Danehill). There are also stakes winners out of mares by Hard Spun, Lil’s Lad and Polish Numbers. There are numerous other sources of Danzig that would appeal here, including Belong to Me, War Front – who should work particularly well here and is sire of Air Force Blue, Data Link, Declaration of War, Hit It A Bomb, Jack Milton, Summer Front and The Factor – and Exchange Rate.
Into Mischief’s graded stakes winner Vyjack is out of a mare by Stravinsky, a son of the Northern Dancer horse, Nureyev. Other sources of Nureyev include Fasliyev, Spinning World, Theatrical, Unusual Heat and Atticus. Nureyev is a three-quarters brother to Sadler’s Wells, and from the El Prado branch of that line, there are graded winners by Into Mischief and a son out of mares by Medaglia d’Oro, and two stakes winners out of mares by that horse’s son, Warrior’s Reward. This also suggests mares by Kitten’s Joy and Artie Schiller.
From the Deputy Minister branch of Northern Dancer, there is an Into Mischief stakes winner out of a mare by Awesome Again. He would be particularly interesting here through Paynter, Oxbow and Awesome Patriot, who are all out of sisters to Tiznow, the broodmare sire of Mr. Money. Note Paynter has already sired two stakes winners, one graded, out Tiznow mares. Awesome Again son, Ghostzapper, whose dam is bred similarly to Tiznow, could also be interesting.
From his own Storm Cat line Goldencents has grade one winner Going to Vegas out of a mare by Johannesburg, and Into Mischief has grade two winning juvenile Mutasaabeq out of a mare by that horse’s son, Scat Daddy.
Into Mischief’s talented son, Vicar’s In Trouble, is out of a mare by Vicar, a son of Wild Again. This strain could also be brought in through Wild Rush, Offlee Wild, Milwaukee Brew and Whiskey Wisdom. There is also an Into Mischief stakes winner out of a mare by Mazel Trick, by Phone Trick, from the Clever Trick branch of Wild Again’s sire, Icecapade.
Into Mischief has grade one winner Dayoutoftheoffice and grade two winner Frank’s Rockette out of mares by Indian Charlie (sire of Uncle Mo, Adios Charlie, Bwana Charlie, Liaison and Cinco Charlie), and two sons of Into Mischief have stakes winners on the same cross. Indian Charlie is by In Excess, also sire of Rocky Bar, Notional and Bring the Heat.
Goldencents has two-year-old stakes winner Verylittlecents out of a mare by Arch (sire of Blame and Archarcharch), from the Roberto line. Arch is by Kris S., who is also represented by Prized, You and I, Rock Hard Ten, Kissin Kris and Brocco. There is also an Into Mischief line graded stakes winner out of a mare by Roberto son, Dynaformer (sire of Temple City, Point and Entry and Brilliant Speed).
The Into Mischief line cross with A.P. Indy line mares hasn’t been the most prolific, but we can note seven stakes winners, including millionaire Owendale out of a mare by Bernardini (sire of Stay Thirsty and To Honor and Serve), grade two winner Chess Chief out of a mare by Mineshaft (who looks a good fit here and is sire of Dialed In and Discreetly Mine), a graded winner out of a mare by Corinthian, by Pulpit, whose son Tapit (sire of Constitution, Tapizar, Tapiture and Trappe Shot) is also broodmare sire of a stakes winner by Into Mischief, and other stakes winners out of mares by Congrats (a brother to Flatter) and Aptitude.
Into Mischief is sire of stakes winner Mischievous Mama out of a mare by Afternoon Deelites, by Private Terms, a son of Private Account (who is available through Corporate Report, Personal Flag, Unaccounted For, Secret Hello and Valley Crossing). Private Account is by Damascus, and from the Timeless Moment branch of that line Into Mischief is sire of grade one winner Audible out of a mare by Gilded Time.
Into Mischief and his sire, Harlan’s Holiday, have enjoyed success with some branches of Blushing Groom. Into Mischief sired grade one winner Gamine out of a mare by Kafwain and graded winner One Liner out of a mare by that horse’s sire Cherokee Run (sire of Yonaguska), and Goldencents has multiple graded winner Wildman Jack out of a mare by Orientate (by Mt. Livermore, also sire of Housebuster and Peaks and Valleys), a graded one winner out of a mare by Candy Stripes (sire of Invasor), and a graded winner out of a Rahy mare.
